What To Do In Breck During The Summer

Breckenridge has tons of summer activities for the whole family. If the cool, fresh mountain air, spectacular views and fields of wild alpine flowers are not enough to draw you into the mountains, there are plenty of events and activities to enjoy with your friends and family. Here are a few of our favorites.

Tours with Breckenridge Heritage Alliance

The Breckenridge Heritage Alliance offers a broad range of walking tours guided by local experts. You can take a leisurely stroll through the historic district in downtown, join friends for a Victorian Tea in a historic home, or take a Twilight Tombstone Tour. They also offer hikes to historic mining ghost towns and other places of interest near Breckenridge.

Country Boy Mine

Located just two miles from downtown Breckenridge, the Country Boy Mine is the perfect place to learn about the area’s rich mining history. Once an active gold mine, you can now take a mine tour and see what it was like working underground. This isn’t just a museum; you can also try panning for gold yourself or slide down the 55 ft. ore shoot. The Country Boy Mine is a great attraction for the whole family.

Festivals

There are festivals and events most weekends throughout the summer. Plan your trip around an event that piques your interest, such as the WAVE: Light + Water event, Breckenridge Beer Fest, or The International Festival of Arts. Take in exhibits and events throughout the festivals while enjoying all the shops and dining in downtown Breckenridge.

Events at the Riverwalk Center

The Riverwalk is a venue that offers concerts and events ranging from free late night movies to classical performances to folk concerts. Check out their schedule and enjoy your favorite artists in this stunning venue.

Hike a 14er

Colorado is proud of its many peaks over 14,000 feet, lovingly called 14ers. There is no shortage of 14ers near Breckenridge. Mt. Quandary is one of the most commonly ascended peaks. The trailhead is easy to access, located off of Highway 9 going south toward Hoosier Pass. Start early in the morning to avoid dangerous afternoon thunderstorms. If your family is not up to a 14er, there are many easier hikes that allow you to enjoy beautiful scenery at a comfortable pace. See our past post about best hikes to view the wildflowers.

Local Hiking Trails

If a 14er isn’t in the schedule for you, try one from Breckenridge’s extensive trail system with hiking trails for all skill levels. Beginners, kids and families will enjoy Boreas Pass Rd which has great views, but is relatively flat and wide. More advanced hikers will enjoy Boreas Pass mountain trail or Baker’s Tank Trail which is littered with wild roses and other wildflowers. (Learn more about our local wildflowers here.)

Epic Discovery

Take the Gondola up the mountain and experience Epic Discovery. An all day pass will get you access to the alpine slide, alpine coaster, ziplines, climbing walls, a bungee trampoline, mini golf and so much more. Epic Discovery provides a full day of activity for everyone in the family. Some of the activities have age and height requirements, so check to make sure your family can enjoy the activities they were looking forward to. Epic Discovery also offers off-road jeep tours, guided hikes, and guided mountain bike rides.
